Straight Forward (female, birth date 03\/01\/09)\u00a0 has been having a banner all-age career which is a natural extension of the success she had even as a juvenile performer.<\/p>\n<p>Winning the Pennsylvania Grouse Championship and then nailing down the coveted Grand National Grouse and Woodcock Invitational Championship in Michigan were highlights of &#8220;Cracker&#8217;s&#8221; 2012 season.\u00a0 Cracker was handled in all her Championship wins by pro Dave Hughes.\u00a0 Throughout her early development with the Brenneman&#8217;s, Cracker was often handled by Helen&#8211;a testament to Helen&#8217;s dog handling skills and Cracker&#8217;s bidability.<\/p>\n<p>At the Pennsylvania Grouse Championship,\u00a0 &#8220;Cracker&#8221; ran one of the best hunting efforts we have ever witnessed.\u00a0 Fast, snappy, driving forward, smooth, strong, powerful and well-patterned are adjectives that fit her hunting that day and her grouse find was expertly handled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Winning the three-day Invitational showed &#8220;Cracker&#8217;s&#8221; strength, endurance and powerful running in addition to handling half a dozen grouse and woodcock finds to perfection over the course of the event.\u00a0 On the final day she came out charging and in a sleet storm astounded the gallery with her determination and ability to handle adverse conditions&#8211;including swimming out of a frozen pond after falling through the ice.\u00a0 No matter, she went on as if nothing had happened.\u00a0 Additionally Cracker was RU Ch. at the Northern New England Woodcock Championship in Maine.\u00a0 Championship wins in all the various regions of the cover dog circuit are to her credit and speaks well for a relatively young dog.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the 2012 season, Cracker had amassed more points in cover dog stakes than any other dog in competition that year.\u00a0 For her accomplishments she received the Seminatore Award&#8211;top setter all-age dog.\u00a0 Additionally, she received the Foster Award as the top cover dog all-age performer&#8211;irrespective of breed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1086\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1086\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Straight-Forwards-Foster-and-Seminatore-Awards.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1086\" src=\"http:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Straight-Forwards-Foster-and-Seminatore-Awards-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Bob(L) and Dick(R) receive Straight Forward's awards, 11\/2013\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Straight-Forwards-Foster-and-Seminatore-Awards-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Straight-Forwards-Foster-and-Seminatore-Awards.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1086\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bob(L) and Dick(R) receive Straight Forward&#8217;s awards, 11\/2013<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 2013, Cracker added a Runner-Up Champion in the New York Grouse Championship to her credit.<\/p>\n<p>Right from the start Cracker stood out as a pup with potential.\u00a0 She placed in her first trial, an open derby stake at 7 months of age.\u00a0 Later she won the Venango Puppy Classic&#8211;the foremost puppy stake in the east.\u00a0 As a derby she scored a number of nice wins and was runner-up in the Flanagan Award competition.<\/p>\n<p>Now at age 4, Cracker is still a young dog.\u00a0 Her accomplishments to date are going to be tough to match.\u00a0 We continue to have expectations that she can add to her illustrious record.<\/p>\n<p>BREEDING:<\/p>\n<p>Cracker&#8217;s sire is Ch. Keystone Red Rage (10-12-65).\u00a0 &#8220;Mickey&#8221; is owned by\u00a0 Craig Peters recently relocated to Wisconsin.\u00a0\u00a0 We admired Mickey as he performed on the grouse circuit with Craig always at the helm.\u00a0 Generally he was a handful with strong drive and desire.\u00a0 We were impressed with his athleticism and eye-appeal in motion.\u00a0 He was a bull on his birds.\u00a0 These are the traits that we have been drawn to over the decades and they were the basis for choosing to breed to him.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_501\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-501\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Mickey-10-19-05.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-501\" src=\"http:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Mickey-10-19-05-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Keystone Red Rage\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Mickey-10-19-05-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Mickey-10-19-05.JPG 966w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-501\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><strong>Keystone Red Rage<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mickey comes from a bird dog sire that also impressed us, Ch. Chip&#8217;s Torquato (14-13-106).\u00a0 &#8220;Torque&#8221; too was a powerful dog on the ground who ran with strength, determination and class.\u00a0 He was breathtaking, very intense, on point.\u00a0 In fact, we bred Pennstar&#8217;s sister, First Option, to Torque earlier, but a small litter didn&#8217;t produce winners.\u00a0 Still we liked Torque&#8217;s characteristics and when we bred to Torque&#8217;s son we hit pay dirt.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_499\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-499\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Lacey-AF-Photo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-499\" src=\"http:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Lacey-AF-Photo-300x260.jpg\" alt=\"Keystone Red Ryder\" width=\"300\" height=\"260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Lacey-AF-Photo-300x260.jpg 300w, https:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Lacey-AF-Photo.jpg 743w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-499\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><strong>Keystone Red Ryder<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Keystone Red Rage&#8217;s dam is Craig Peter&#8217;s Ch. Keystone Red Ryder.\u00a0 &#8220;Lacey&#8221; won 23 times over the course of a long career and is the dam of 11 winners including Champions.<\/p>\n<p>Quixstar, the dam of Straight Forward, was campaigned as a young dog and she won the International Cover Dog Puppy Classic and the New Hampshire Amateur Puppy Classic.\u00a0 &#8220;Riggs&#8221; was an extreme stylist both running and on point.\u00a0 We chose not to campaign her and put her with my hunting pal, Jim Smythe of Lititz, PA.\u00a0\u00a0 We joined Jim on a number of hunts with her over the years.\u00a0 On one trip to North Dakota, Riggs left an indelible impression as she outperformed&#8211;out-hunted, out-ran and out-pointed all the dogs who made the trip, including some famous Champions.\u00a0 That clinched it and we bred her to Mickey.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_262\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-262\" style=\"width: 183px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Riggs3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-262\" src=\"http:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Riggs3.jpg\" alt=\"Quixstar\" width=\"183\" height=\"184\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Riggs3.jpg 183w, https:\/\/coverdogsetters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Riggs3-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 183px) 100vw, 183px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-262\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><strong>Quixstar<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Quixstar&#8217;s sire is 5X\u00a0 Ch. Pennstar (30-74-310).\u00a0 Pennstar is known for producing fast, snappy, hard hunters who find and handle wild birds.\u00a0 The dam of Quixstar is Barnburner.\u00a0 She was sired by our Grand National Grouse Ch. Body Guard ex Gretna Crest Dahlia (by Grouse Ridge Reroy).\u00a0 Barnburner when bred to Pennstar produced eight cover dog winners who, along with Riggs, included Ch.
