Full Blast

Champion Full Blast has made history as the only dog to ever win all the cover dog derby awards and all the cover dog all-age awards.  Consistently winning multiple derby stakes led to “Jeb” earning the honor of being both the winner of the Thomas Flanagan Award (top setter derby) and the William Harnden Foster Award (top derby of any breed) in the 2012-2013 season.  At the recent Grand National Grouse Championship banquet, Full Blast received both the Michael Seminatore Award (top all-age setter) and another William Harnden Foster Award (top all-age dog of any breed) for his string of quality wins in the 2013-2014 season.

No other grouse dog in history has won all of these awards.

Full Throttle

Full Throttle, daughter of Full Blast ex Jumpstart, rambled through the woods at the Gladwin Preserve near Meredith, Michigan, on Nov 2 putting forth  her usual fast, snappy, rangy hunting effort.  Her find in the call-back session exhibited straight up style and intensity earning her second in the Grand National Grouse Futurity.  Ruby is bred, owned and handled by Mike Spotts of Bloomsburg, PA, and her early development was with his friend and hunting pal Thor Kain of Carbondale, PA.

Ruby earlier won the prestigious Venango Puppy Classic for Thor and she has placed as a  fall derby prior to the Futurity running.

Ruby is line-bred to Ch. Pennstar as both her sire Full Blast and her dam Jumpstart are direct offspring of the five-time grouse and woodcock Champion.  Jumpstart. originally owned by our kennel and bred by Michiganer Brian Woods, won the Pennsylvania Grouse Trial Club Open All-Age besting forty contenders with Mike then the owner/handler.  In her first litter, Jumpstart, then owned by Watts/Brenneman produced Ch. Spitfire who won the National Amateur Grouse Championship with Mike, her owner, at the helm.  Jumpstart became known as an excellent bird finder and Ruby follows in the tradition.  Ruby is from Full Blast’s first litter. Seeing young Full Blast’s potential in workouts, Mike selected him as the sire for Jumpstart before Full Blast’s string of Championship wins and awards.

Full Blast has earned Runner-Up honors as the Pennsylvania Open Walking Shooting Dog.   For decades the Pennsylvania Walking Shooting Dog Association has recognized the best walking shooting dogs on the PA circuit.  “Jeb” seldom runs in released bird trials but in 2013 we made an exception and Jeb proved his versatility by winning the 34-dog DuBois–Beaver Meadows open shooting dog stake.  Jeb’s point total was a mere four points from the total of the dog who was named the Winner of the award.  Jeb follows in his sire’s footsteps as 5XCh. Pennstar won the PA Walking Shooting Dog Award in 2004.
